Yes. All mattresses and foundations are assembled and finished through detailed handwork assisted with specific types of equipment.

There is a distinct look and genuine pocket coil “feel” from the inside-out, related to inner support and complete body comfort. There is no artificial height added to the mattress design profile that may conflict with the customer’s body type or fail to fit the contours of the bedroom furniture. All mattresses sets are fully hand-upholstered like traditional furniture without the use of adhesives or encasement. Marshall’s patented pocket spring core support design offers both full body-adjusted lift and pressure relief. This comfort is enhanced when combined with specific combinations of natural-source and new manmade, firm and/or soft upholstery padding of different compositions. No matter whether ‘flip’ two-sided or ‘no-flip’ one-sided, the comfort and support sensations are further enhanced by the mattress style. This refers to ‘tight-top’, ‘pillow-top’ or (Euro) comfort-top design and, regardless of function such as standard, folding-type or adjustable. In addition all assembly materials and finished bedding must be Clean Sleep® safe to offer a healthful and restorative sleeping environment. This means that all Marshall natural-source damask cover fabrics are damask-woven with yarns that are colour-fast using water-based dyes. In turn the Mill finishes each fabric with a natural source anti-dustmite treatment so that the entire weaving process is completed according to the highest Belgian, European Union and OEKO-TEX® 100 standards.

The finest quality natural and manmade materials such as soy, cotton, wool, eucalyptus, latex, Viscose, Hollofil™, Fibretek™ and Sustainable kiln dried lumber. Even Marshall Mattress’s spring wire is made from extra-resilient, premier grade North American high-carbon steel.

No matter what the source, most foams other than latex are referred to technically as polyurethane foam – whether conventional or specialty; the latter such as Ultra-cel or Viscoelastic (Memory) foam. The composition of the foam is what is most interesting. Most of the organic sources are Soy oils and petroleum. Both sources are then converted to 2 essential building blocks. The basic ingredient is Polyol and the activating ingredient is either TDI or MDI. Marshall Mattress’s latex is comprised primarily of natural latex and Butylene latex. Currently Marshall Mattress’s primary upholstery (standard Soy foam toppers and Aer-Fōm) and quilting foams are MDI and Polyol-based. These upholstery components are called Soy Foams, since a key source of the 2 ingredients of each quality are Soy-based. The benefit is that when

being manufactured, the foams oxidize and cure more quickly and, consequently emit low levels of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC’s). The Soy foams are CertiPUR-US® certified which they meet CertiPUR-US® standards for content, emissions and durability, and are analyzed by independent, accredited testing laboratories.

Yes. The quality of both Soy and Latex foam and its timed manufacturing process ensures a more stable and complete oxidation-cure rate that lowers VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) levels prior to being received for upholstery assembly at Marshall Mattress. All foam used in Marshall Mattress upholstery and quilting is also CertiPUR-US® certified.

Damask woven fabric is uniquely sturdy and has traditionally been used in the production of both mattresses and upholstery. It is similar to a heavier table-cloth weave where the weft and warp yarns create the pattern, the durability and the colour of the fabric. Knitted material is much more flexible than damask cloth and although it can also be of good quality, has a tendency to pill and soil more easily over time.

Aer-Fōm is made from MDI and Polyol. MDI is considered an even more user-friendly source material in combination with Polyol. Aer-Fōm is the inner upholstery padding (below the quilt), which rests over the Marshall Pocket Coil spring-core. It is a body-conforming and pressure-relieving material that resembles memory foam but, without any heat sensitivity or heat retention whatsoever. It has a pleasant smell and delivers a very stable pressure-contact reaction with the human body’s shape and weight distribution, working in conjunction with the patented Marshall Pocket coil construction.

The premier wire used for all original Marshall Pocket Coil springs is formulated to include environmentally friendly components. The wire’s intrinsic strength is based on combining new and recycled steel. This metallic combination and the applied finishing process results in a spring that demonstrates high resilience and excellent tensile strength, plus a resistance to corrosion within a patented Marshall Mattress spring core assembly.

Edge-around® seating edge border pocket coil springs are made of heavy 14.5 gauge (1.54 mm) high carbon, corrosion-resistant premier spring wire. The Edge-around coils compression rate average 285,000 PSI (pounds per square inch) or 20,037.5 Kg/cm2 or Sleep Central™ area pocket coil springs are made of slightly thinner (differing by the thickness of a human hair) but higher tensile strength, premier spring wire rated at 310,000 PSI or 21,795.2 Kg/cm2

The weight of our mattresses and foundations are dependent on the style of mattress and its size. On average, a mattress and foundation set ranges between 125lb-260lb with some fluctuation. For specific product information, please contact Marshall Mattress directly.

The comfort levels of each mattress varies by collection and is unique to each individual. While Marshall Mattress qualifies each mattress collection and individual model, it is strongly recommended to visit your local retailer and trial each product as comfort levels are subjective.

Body imprinting or impression can occur in the top layers of upholstery padding under the cover. It will take place whether the mattress is quilted or outer-tufted and is considered a normal and desirable occurrence. This change takes place as the new mattress adapts to the sleeper’s weight and body shape, while at the same time the sleeper becomes used to the support and comfort offered by the new mattress. On both flip and no-flip bedding impressions rarely exceed 1.5” and are measured from the top flat surface of the mattress. That is, not intersecting either quilt stitching or a tuft demarcation point, which further depresses the upholstery padding well below the cover fabric.

As part of Marshall Mattress’s CleanSleep® environmentally safe manufacturing approach, all damask cover fabrics used are anti-dust mite finished by the Belgian weaving mill that supplies Marshall Mattress. This bio-friendly finish inhibits dustmite feeding and breeding within the human residues of the bed sleeping environment. Note that Belgium has some of the most stringent manufacturing environmental codes in the Euro-market and over weaving mill’s anti-dust mite finish has received OEKO-TEX® STANDARD Certification.

Up to 350 lbs for an individual sleeper. The Marshall Pocket Coil spring inner support pocket system will remain supportive and offer pressure relief. However, note that the wear-factor in terms of mattress upholstery compression is increased so that body impression will become permanent, although still comfortable.

No. Each Marshall Mattress design features an assembly process that results in a performance response referred to as “Airflow Ambiance™”. This focuses on putting each mattress together to incorporate maximum breathability and temperature neutrality from its top, bottom and sides. At the heart of it all, the pocket spring core internally behaves as a gentle bellows – drawing and expelling air throughout while the mattress is in use.

Are there fire retardants or related chemicals used in your mattresses? No flame retardants are ever used in Canadian upholstery foams. In particular there are no Poly Brominated Diphenyl Ethers referred to as PBDE’s, which are environmentally toxic. There are non-toxic processes and natural source materials that result in inherent mattress flame resistance but nothing that is deemed unsafe for use in Canada or abroad.

Over time there are changes to any manufacturing programme and the models as well as the names of models produced. However, Marshall Mattress does retain key design styles and comfort levels which may still be identifiable to what the customer purchased before. Feel free to contact us for this information.

By Marshall Mattress definition, folding mattress are not the same as Adjustable mattresses. Marshall Mattress produces both types. Folding mattresses are both flip two-sided and no-flip designs that are intended for delivery access issues where a conventional mattress cannot be bent more than 25 degrees without damaging the mattress. The Marshall-patented folding design solves this limited access delivery problem without allowing the mattress to be damaged and, without changing the support and comfort level of the mattress itself. Adjustable mattresses are designed to offer the same the support and comfort level of specific 2-sided flip, tight-top and pillow top Marshall Mattress models but, specially re-configured as no-flip mattresses. This physical alteration allows the mattress to fit and function within any good quality adjustable bed mechanism. Within the mechanism, the Marshall Adjustable mattress will demonstrate full articulation in all sleep positions, while simultaneously offering the same quality of even support and comfort just like the original 2-sided version.

Yes, as no-flip pocket coil design to allow a more complete articulation of the mattress to the mechanism itself and, without impacting on the comfort feel and support characteristics of the

mattress. This is to counteract a complaint that many adjustable mattresses seem to “pop out” of an operating mechanism. Marshall Mattress reconfigures its two sided mattress designs to no-flip for that very reason and with no change in comfort, support or cost to the customer. Please note that at this time, no adjustable mattress are offered if the original design is a no-flip Euro-style comfort top.

Same as above. Marshall Adjustables work well with any premium adjustable bedbase.

Mattress and Foundation sleep sets as well as mattresses only, when installed according to Marshall Warranty Care information provided, are accorded a Limited Warranty of either a full 10 years for all its branded mattress products excluding Sofa bed mattresses – 5 years and Bespoke by Marshall Designs – 15 year

We recommend using a premium grade bedframe that provides the maximum number of support legs and cross supports, well-balanced to properly distribute the weight of both the mattress set and the sleeper (or sleepers). Most often recommended are Knickerbocker Bed frame products

Yes, if the mattress set is being installed in a traditional frame or bed system a new matching foundation should be used. An old foundation, whether boxspring or platform type should not be used.

Slat system for mattress only is workable if the slats measure a full 1”x 4” (2.5cm x 10.2xm) and are separated by no less than 1” (2.5cm). It is sometimes advisable to overlay the slat system with a matching 2” platform base (5cm) which can more evenly balance the slat system.

If it is a two sided (or flip) design, yes, flipping ensures even wear for both support and comfort and the best useful life of the mattress. This allows both mattress’s sleep surfaces (sides) to have the greatest surface recovery. Failure to do so may exaggerate body impressions to the point of non-recovery and this condition is not within service criteria outlined in the product warranty.

See diagram for correct positioning. Note: When the bed is brand new, in the first 4 months flip and reverse the mattress alternatively from end-to-end. Subsequently the mattress should be flipped twice a year and rotated (reversed from end-to-end) twice a year.

Vacuum mattress cover only. Do not use water or any solvent cleaners. Should any stains occur, this situation will void the mattress warranty.

By using a mattress protector, a fabric covering overlay that is configured to prevent body moisture from penetrating to the mattress cover and into the interior where it can cause bacterial growth, which would foul the mattress sleeping environment and void the user warranty. Some protectors are made of a thin, washable cotton-polyester terrycloth stretch material that is undercoated with a moderately breathable layer of polyurethane (a synthetic rubber-like material), which resists fluid penetration. Another type is a washable cotton-polyester blend well-quilted cover overlay (that is at least 7oz/sq. yd. Hollofil fibre filling). This more breathable type is less fluid resistant but its thickness adds more comfort under the bed linen and reasonably restricts fluid penetration).

Yes, always. However personal response varies. Some may have previously over-worn their old mattress set so that the new one provides immediate relief with a better, more supportive and comfortable sleep surface. For others, the bed and the sleeper require “getting into and used-to” as the bed begins to adjust to weight and contours of the user and the user enjoys a greater quality of sleep from the new bed. The adjustment period may be as little as a few days to 4-6 weeks, especially as the user begins a bedding maintenance program that helps break-in the mattress set. Note: If the mattress is no-flip and has only a one-sided sleep surface, it is recommended that the mattress be reversed from end-to-end every three months so the mattress cushioning wearing-in pattern is evened out.

What are your foundations made of? Marshall Foundations are one of two styles. The first, a box spring– which has a number of ‘spring’ formats based on specific support response (firmer 0% to 2% deflection and more flexible, 10% to 12% deflection) as well as finished height – all mounted on a Marshall-specified kiln-dried sustainable wood lumber base-frame structure.

The other foundation is a 0% deflection platform base that is significantly reinforced and made with sustainable kiln-dried wood.

All foundations, whether a boxspring or platform base design, are fully upholstered to match the finished mattress it supports and, well above industry standard.

How can I tell that I need a new mattress? To answer the question requires first a few mattress-wear facts:

· Many mattresses promoted at market popular prices on average may offer a useful life of 6 to 8 years even though they generally are warranted at 10 years.

· Almost every mattress support and comfort level offered is built as a no-flip (or one-sided sleep surfaces) whether tight-top, pillow-top or Euro-top design. On that basis, you are to expect a permanent wear-pattern to some degree, of body impression – a cushion-wear imprinting which can be evened out by reversing the mattress from end-to-end every few months.

· Most of this cushion wear is superficial and found only in the top upholstery or quilted layers just under the mattress top covering. This wear pattern is usually superficial and does not affect the mattress’s overall support and comfort.

· Only a flip (two-sided sleep surface) mattress has the ability to more significantly reduce the visually apparent and physical cushion impressions through a regular annual cycle of mattress flips and rotations (reversals from end-to-end); at least 2 of each, every year.

· The flip mattress design requires a little more work but if the maintenance cycle is maintained, then the mattress is expected to last 10 to 12 years before a replacement is recommended.

· It is noteworthy to mention that most Marshall Mattress sleep set owners keep their beds, whether flip or no-flip, for an average of 10 to 12 years. The only exception is and-tufted Bespoke by Marshall® sleep sets, which are kept for an average of 15 years.

With this information in hand the replacement question for the mattress owner becomes more straightforward and reasonable.

How does your mattress feel and how do you feel going to sleep and the period after you awaken (after 30 minutes or so)?

Mattress age versus anticipated useful life gives you a better sense when a mattress’s internal functionality (personal support and external comfort) no longer offers an optimum sleep environment. Take note of the Warranty Care booklet’s differentiation between normal wear and non-recovering wear and how it affects the sleeper. Note that in most cases, depending on the age of the mattress, especially at the end of its useful life, the visual appearance of the mattress is attributable to normal wear-and-tear – not mattress failure.

Describe your feeling of comfort or lack of it when you sleep, or, within about 30 minutes of waking up that is not attributable to personal age, fitness and general body wear-and-tear? Most aches and pains disappear within that time frame and are not related to the state of the mattress.

For all a no-flip (or one-sided sleep surfaces) whether tight-top, pillow-top or Euro-top design – you are to expect a permanent wear-pattern to some degree, i.e. a body impression. This

cushion-wear pattern can be evened out by reversing (rotating) the mattress from end-to-end every 2 months.

For the first 4 months when the mattress is brand new, the following schedule should be adhered to:

· After the 1st month, flip the mattress right over to the opposite side

· After month 2, rotate (reverse) the mattress from end-to-end

· After month 3, flip the mattress right over again

· After month 4, rotate the mattress again from end-to-end

· The 4 month break-in period will gently set the upholstery layers of the flip mattress and ensure more even wear as the surface recovery is more complete

· After the break-in period extend the maintenance cycle to every 3 months to repeat the same recovery pattern

· This means alternatively 2 flips (over) and 2 rotations (reversals end-to-end) every year. This ensures the best useful wear for your Marshall Mattress sleep set or mattress
